The Academy announced that “EO,” by Jerzy Skolimowski, is one of this year’s Nominees for the International Feature Film Oscar 2023
The Academy announced on Tuesday that “EO,” a movie by Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski, has been nominated for the International Feature Film Oscar 2023. Skolimowski, a filmmaker renowned for his distinct storytelling and engaging images, may now add this honour to his already strong résumé. A tribute to his abilities as a director, “EO” is certain to be a standout nominee in this year’s competition. For Skolimowski and the Polish cinema industry as a whole, the nomination of the movie is a significant accomplishment.
About The Movie EO by Jerzy Skolimowski
“EO” is a quadrupedal adventure that is disrupted by forces acting against the protagonists’ will as they are seeking transspecies affection and intimacy. In plain English, it is about a donkey performing in a circus alongside a young woman by the name of Kasandra (Sandra Drzymalska). The animal is groomed by the girl and responds by loving her back completely. One of the numerous anthropocentric preconceptions that Skolimowski wants to dispel with his multidimensional moving picture is the fact that both species are connected by sensations that almost qualify as love but are often only experienced by humans.
When animal rights activists send bailiffs to the circus to dismantle it, the donkey, named Eo, is taken from her carer. Putting away the metaphysical and sublime and viewing the event through a materialist factual perspective. What happens next for Eo is just a succession of trials that show how human beings have formed and moulded both his internal and external experiences.
Overview
The fact that the story is written from the perspective of an animal makes it stand out since all the human connections are secondary, incomplete, and throwaway, much like how animal threads are handled in human-centered stories.
Ewa Piaskowska was in charge of co-screenwriting and co-producing the movie, and Micha Dymek was in charge of the cinematography (with Micha Englert and Pawe Edelman shooting some of the scenes). Pawe Mykietyn created the music, and Agnieszka Gliska was in charge of the editing. Gutek Film is the film’s distributor in Poland. Inputs from tvpworld
Ex aequo with Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix van Groeningen’s “The Eight Mountains,” Jerzy Skolimowski’s “EO” (PL version: IO) won the jury award at the 75th Cannes Film Festival in May 2022.
March
As the awards ceremony for the International Feature Film Oscar approaches in March, anticipation is building for the outcome of the competition. Jerzy Skolimowski’s “EO” is a strong contender, having already received recognition from the Academy. The film’s nomination is a significant achievement for Skolimowski, who has established himself as a prominent figure in the world of filmmaking. It also serves as a moment of pride for the Polish film industry, as one of their own is being recognized on the international stage. The film’s fans and the film industry are eagerly waiting for the outcome of the awards and to see if “EO” will take home the coveted prize.
